When the AGITO Is the Better Choice

Every tool on set exists for a reason. A Steadicam, a dolly, a crane — each has a job it does best. The AGITO does not replace them. It solves specific problems that these traditional tools were never designed to address.

Heavy Camera Packages at Sustained Speed

Steadicam operators are among the most skilled technicians on any set. But physics is physics. A fully-rigged ARRI Mini LF or Sony Venice 2 with a long zoom — 40+ lbs on a sled — creates fatigue over a 12-hour day. That fatigue shows up in micro-vibrations on longer focal lengths, especially beyond 75mm. Take 1 is sharp. Take 14 may not be. The AGITO carries up to 220 lbs with hydraulic damping and delivers identical smoothness on take 14 as on take 1. No operator fatigue. No degradation.

High-Speed Tracking Without Compromise

Live sports and concert production demand camera speeds that no human operator can sustain while maintaining broadcast-quality framing. A Steadicam operator running at 15 mph alongside a sideline is a safety risk and a framing risk. The AGITO tracks at up to 27 mph with remote-operated precision, maintaining consistent head height and smooth deceleration. Your operator sits at a monitor, focused entirely on composition — not on running.

Repeatability for VFX and Multi-Pass Work

Dolly track gives you repeatable moves, but it takes 45 minutes to an hour to lay, level, shim, and test a complex curved run on uneven ground. Then your DP asks to shift the whole move five feet camera-left. Another 15-minute reset. The AGITO on MagTrax — magnetic tape laid in minutes, hidden under carpet or set dressing — delivers the same repeatability with sub-millimeter precision, and repositioning is a 30-second drive to the new mark.

Tight Spaces and Dangerous Positions

A dolly grip and operator take up space. In a narrow hallway, a small apartment set, or anywhere near pyrotechnics, stunt work, or moving vehicles, putting a human behind the camera creates both a safety liability and a logistics problem. The AGITO is remote-operated from a safe distance. The camera goes where the story needs it — into tight corridors, alongside moving vehicles, through doorways — without risking crew or compromising the shot.

Virtual Production and LED Volume Integration

Inside an LED volume, the camera’s physical movement must be tracked in real-time and synchronized with the Unreal Engine render to maintain parallax. Traditional dollies and Steadicam rigs introduce tracking variables that complicate calibration. The AGITO’s encoded motors and predictable kinematics integrate cleanly with motion tracking systems (Mo-Sys, Stype, OptiTrack), delivering the repeatable, low-vibration platform that virtual production pipelines require.

All-Terrain Without Dance Floor

Traditional dollies are rigid, unsprung systems. On anything other than a leveled stage floor or properly laid track, they produce visible wobble. That means dance floor, which means more setup time and more grip truck inventory. The AGITO’s hydraulically-damped suspension absorbs surface irregularities — concrete warehouse floors, event carpet, outdoor pavement — delivering dolly-smooth results on surfaces where a Fisher or Chapman would need a dance floor underneath.

Why Gen 2

We operate the Gen 2 AGITO — the current-generation system from Motion Impossible. If you’ve worked with a Gen 1 unit from another operator, here is what changed and why it matters on your set.

Silent Steering

Gen 1: Audible servo noise during steering corrections

Gen 2 actuators are redesigned for silent operation. On a dialogue-heavy scene or in a quiet studio, the system steers without introducing noise into your audio. Sound mixers will thank you.

Faster Processor & Sensor Feedback

Gen 1: Basic motor control and telemetry

The Gen 2 Core runs a faster processor with expanded sensor data — tighter motor response, smoother acceleration curves, and real-time operational telemetry that the operator can monitor during the take.

Integrated Ethernet Control

Gen 1: RF-only remote control

Gen 2 adds wired Ethernet alongside RF, enabling direct integration with production networks, virtual production tracking systems, and centralized control rooms. In an LED volume, this is not optional — it’s required.

IP54 Weather Rating

Gen 1: Indoor / controlled environment use

The Gen 2 carries an IP54 dust and water resistance rating. Rain delays on an exterior shoot don’t mean packing the system. It keeps working in conditions that would sideline the Gen 1.

Haptic Feedback Controller

Gen 1: Visual-only status indicators

The redesigned Master Controller vibrates to warn the operator of boundary limits, battery status, and safety triggers. When you’re eyes-on-monitor driving at speed along a sideline, you feel the warning before you see it.

Larger Display & Assignable Controls

Gen 1: Smaller screen, fixed button layout

The Gen 2 controller has a larger screen for improved readability in direct sunlight, an integrated precision rocker for Tower/Column control, and assignable function buttons that operators can map to their workflow.

Full Backward Compatibility. The Gen 2 Core and Master Controller are fully compatible with all Gen 1 drive-ends, towers, columns, risers, and MagTrax accessories. If your production already owns Gen 1 peripherals, our Gen 2 brain works with your existing iron.

Two Systems. Different Jobs. One Department.

We own and operate two distinct motion control platforms because no single tool covers every production scenario. Understanding the difference between them is the first step toward choosing the right one for your shoot.

Ground-Based Motion Control

AGITO Gen 2

A robotic dolly platform that moves the camera through space — horizontally, at speed, over distance. Think of it as a dolly with a brain: it drives itself, steers itself, and repeats itself.

  • Payload 220 lbs (100 kg)
  • Speed Range 0.05 in/s – 27 mph
  • Axes X/Y translation + steering
  • Repeatability Encoded motors + MagTrax
  • Weather Rating IP54

Best suited for

Long tracking shots, live sports sideline coverage, high-speed pursuits, concert and event production, dolly-style moves without track, virtual production floor moves, and any scenario where the camera needs to travel distance while maintaining stabilized, repeatable framing.

6-Axis Cinematic Robot

SISU C-14

A 6-axis industrial robot arm adapted for cinema. It does not drive anywhere — it reaches, arcs, and executes complex spatial paths from a fixed position with sub-millimeter precision that no human operator can match.

  • Payload 22 lbs (10 kg)
  • Max Reach 4.9 ft (1.49 m)
  • Axes 6 DoF (full spatial freedom)
  • Repeatability 0.04 mm
  • Power 120VAC / 20A (standard outlet)

Best suited for

Tabletop and product photography, macro work, high-speed reveal shots, multi-pass VFX compositing, virtual production with Unreal Engine integration, and any scenario requiring mathematically identical, frame-perfect camera paths that must be executed dozens of times without variation.

When You Need Both

Some productions benefit from deploying both systems on the same shoot day. The AGITO handles floor-level tracking and high-speed moves across the set while the SISU C-14 handles precision close-up work, product inserts, or VFX passes from a fixed station. Because both systems are owned and operated by the same team, there is one tech scout, one pre-production call, and one invoice. We coordinate the handoffs so your AD is not managing two separate vendors.

Not Just a Camera Platform

The AGITO’s modular Mitchell plate mounting system accepts more than cinema cameras. We deploy it as a mobile 3D capture platform — fitted with LiDAR scanners, photogrammetry rigs, or Gaussian splatting capture arrays — to digitize physical environments for virtual production, VFX, and real-time visualization. UCXR has been delivering LiDAR scanning services since 2017.

LiDAR Scanning

Millimeter-accurate point cloud capture of sets, locations, and architectural spaces. We produce survey-grade 3D datasets that serve as the structural foundation for digital twins — ensuring that virtual extensions on your LED volume match the physical set’s geometry at 1:1 scale. The AGITO provides consistent, vibration-damped transit through large spaces that handheld scanning cannot match.

Photogrammetry

High-resolution overlapping photography processed through RealityCapture and Metashape to extract detailed texture, color, and PBR material data. When combined with our LiDAR passes, this produces photorealistic, production-ready 3D assets — props, set pieces, full environments — optimized for Unreal Engine import with accurate UV mapping and LOD hierarchies.

3D Gaussian Splatting

The next generation of volumetric capture. We generate 3DGS datasets from multi-view camera arrays mounted on the AGITO, producing photorealistic environments that render in real-time without traditional polygon meshes. Gaussian splats preserve natural lighting, view-dependent reflections, and spatial depth — and deploy directly onto LED volumes or into Unreal Engine at interactive frame rates.

Location Scan Point Cloud Mesh + Texture Gaussian Splat Unreal Engine LED Volume

Eight Years of Scanning Experience. Undercurrent XR has been providing LiDAR scanning and 3D capture services since 2017 — before virtual production became an industry standard. Our pipeline has been refined across architecture, broadcast, live events, and film production. We understand the scan-to-screen pipeline end-to-end: from capture methodology and registration, through mesh optimization and Gaussian splat generation, to final delivery as production-ready Unreal Engine assets or LED volume backplates.
